Questions
The questions people are too polite to ask.
These are the things people wonder in the car before they come in. If yours isn’t here, ask us. A real person reads every message.
What should I wear?
Whatever you wore yesterday. Most people are in jeans. Nobody will notice, and if they do, that’s their problem, not yours.
Where exactly are you?
150539 Strawberry Lane, Wausau, WI 54401. We meet in a home. Get directions. If you’d like someone to meet you at the door, text 715-529-2937 before you come.
Why do you meet in a house?
Because that’s where we are right now, and because a living room is easier to walk into than an auditorium. It’s small, and you can see everyone’s face. When we reach the number we’ve set for ourselves, we’ll move into a place of our own.
How long is it?
One hour, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. There’s coffee. Some people stay and talk afterward, and some head straight out.
Will I have to stand up or introduce myself?
No. It’s a living room, so someone will say hello. But we don’t single out guests, ask anyone to raise a hand, or put you on the spot.
I have kids. What do I do with them?
Bring them. Kids have their own space in the house during the gathering. If they’d rather stay with you, that’s fine. Nobody minds noise.
Am I going to get a lot of emails and phone calls?
Only if you ask us to. You can come every week for a year and never give us your information. If you do share it, one of us will reach out once, and you can tell us to stop at any point and we will.
Do I have to give money?
No. Guests especially, please don’t feel you need to. You’re not a donor. You’re a person we’re glad came. If Generations becomes your church and you want to support it, here is how.
I've been hurt by a church before. Why would this be different?
That’s a fair question, and we’d rather you ask it than assume. We can’t undo what happened to you, and we’re not going to promise we’ll never get it wrong. What we can tell you is what we’re trying to build: a place with no performance, no pressure, and no requirement that you have it together. Come look and judge it for yourself.
I'm not sure what I believe. Is that a problem?
No. A lot of people here are somewhere in the middle of figuring that out. Nobody will ask you to decide anything, and doubt isn’t something you have to leave at the door.
Is there anything during the week?
Yes. A men’s group meets every Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Starbucks on Kort Street. A ladies’ group meets the second and fourth Wednesdays at the house, with finger food at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:00. And starting November 4, First Wednesday is an evening of prayer and music at the house, 6:00 to 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Details for all three.
I'm in a really bad place right now. Can someone help?
Yes. Text 715-529-2937 or email jeff@wearegenerations.net any day of the week and someone will get back to you. If you need help beyond what a church can give, we’ll say so and help you find it.
If you’re in danger or thinking about ending your life, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. It’s free, confidential, and there every hour of every day.
